A HISTORY

THE VALKNUT

Often referred to as the knot of the slain, or as Odin's knot, the Valknut is one of the most well known symbols associated with Norse Mythology. Some believe the three triangles reference the three afterlives: Hell, where those who don't die an honourable death go, or in the case of those who die bravely in Battle, Valhalla Odin's hall or Folkvangr where Freya rules.

It is also believed that the nine points references the nine realms of the Norse Cosmos of which Midgard (our earth), is one.

As a symbol the Valknut is associated with Odin, death and the transition into the afterlife, and has been found on rune stones raised as memorials for dead family, loved ones and friends.
